Trends & Influences: Ebb & Flow Wetroom Bathrooms
A bathroom with boundless options, open spaces and statement-making elements.
This will be the year to create spaces homeowners have always dreamt about, and the bathroom will be the perfect place to start. The beauty of the wetroom bathroom is its boundless options, literally. A wetroom is a completely open, waterproof bath space that includes all the elements of a luxe bathroom. Extremely popular in Europe for some time, wetrooms have begun to rise in notoriety in the US and we expect that this year they will burst onto the home renovation scene. Most include the elements of every luxury bathroom: an open-concept; a frameless, zero-entry shower; floor-to-wall shower tile; freestanding tub; floating vanity; an ADA accessible design, including hardware and lighting.
Not only does it feel grand to shower in a wetroom bathroom, not confined by a tiny enclosure or worrying about splashing water on the floor, they also create a sleek and modern look.
The novelty of the wetroom lies in its open concept design. The shower typically has no tray—and often no door, instead using a shower wall as a splash guard—making it possible to move freely inside. A linear drain is installed in the shower area, where the floor has a gentle slope to direct the water. A large soaking tub is a statement piece here.
Gorgeous tile lays the foundation for a wetroom bath. Floor-to-ceiling, it not only acts as a moisture barrier, but also as an opportunity to create flow throughout the room. Plumbing fixtures set the tone, from modern to contemporary.
Finally, wetroom bathrooms provide an opportunity to incorporate luxurious upgrades as well. A remote-enabled steam shower offers wellness benefits. A modern wall-mounted toilet offers a water-saving dual flush option as well as night light, integrated bidet and quiet-close lid.
