The double cylinder function is ideal for garage doors, back doors, and front doors where a large window makes it a security risk to have a push turn on the interior. The knob/lever is locked and unlocked on both the exterior and interior with a key. In some locations, double cylinder locks will not pass code due to their hindrance of quick exit during a fire, and as such are not commonly used for front or entry doors.
